Snack Hacks on the go

Snack Hacks on the go

When you're in a hurry in the mornings, you want to just grab the easiest thing and get out the door. When you are trying to eat well, it can be hard when you have to go to work or out for the day and you are eating all your meals away from home. It becomes easier to walk to the shops, buy something on the go and chances are they will be unhealthy options. You may even be tempted by the office vending machine and grab yourself some chips, a snack bar full of sugar, or some chocolate. These will not help you on your way to a healthy you! In fact, when you snack on empty carbs you will end up feeling hungry again and craving more bad foods.

Snacking is GREAT to keep your metabolism going throughout the day, fueling your body and letting it burn constantly. It is so important that you not only try to pack a healthy lunch, but if you know you are going to be out for the day the best thing is to be prepared! Choose to prep your snacks as well as your meals for the coming days, so you won’t be stuck with limited choices.

If you need some ideas on what to pack, these are some quick and easy snack preps you can include in your week, that will help keep you satisfied and healthy through your day!

1. Grab a piece of fruit

Fruit comes in its own snack size, as one serving on its own. Not only healthy, but it couldn't get any easier or quicker to grab on the go. Apples and bananas are great, or if you feel adventurous, you can always pack a small bag of berries instead.

2. Do a delicious dip

It doesn't take much time to cut up some vegetables and pack them into daily servings ready to grab on the go. Use some carrots, bell peppers, celery and cucumber, and cut them into sticks so you can dip them into your favorite dip. You can create any of your own dips and pack a serving in a small container to take with you. You could use a healthy hummus, or try this easy recipe:

3. Pack some nuts and seeds

Load some small bags with nuts to take with you on your next outing. Nuts are a great source of good fats, protein and fiber, helping you to stay full for longer. A good serving size is around 20 nuts. You can include mix of almonds, cashews, brazil nuts and walnuts. Or mix it up and also add some seeds like pepitas (or pumpkin seeds), sunflower seeds, and flaxseeds. The options are endless, as you can also add a small number of dried berries, like the powerful goji berries.

4. Bake up some muffins

Muffins – sound delicious right? These can be the perfect snack to bake up on a Sunday and keep aside for later. You can create your own flavors with spices, seeds and fruit, or you can make them into a savoury snack by using eggs, herbs and vegetables.
