Are Gunnar’s workouts coached or self-guided?
Neither! Every workout is delivered as a training plan featuring an introductory video by Gunnar, a breakdown of what you’ll do each day plus technique videos so you can check your form and follow Gunnar’s instructions. Bonus: this makes it light on data, too!
Why is there so much cardio?
In order to maximize weight loss, you need to burn calories and blast fat. The program incorporates both steady-state and intense cardio, designed and proven to get you maximum results. Get our full list of cardio options for both gym and at home.
Do I have to work out every day?
That is the plan! Gunnar X Centr presents you with a different training session each day to maintain intensity and drive results. If you absolutely can’t make a session, try your best to get some kind of movement into your day and jump back into the program as soon as you can.
I don't have a gym membership – what can I do at home instead of bike, elliptical or stepper?
Alternatives to gym-based cardio machines include jump rope, walking flights of stairs, going outside for a walk/jog/run or riding your bike, or marching/running on the spot.
What equipment do I need to train at home?
Each day’s workout on Gunnar X Centr is different, but overall the program makes use of dumbbells, jump rope, bench, medicine ball, barbell… and a deck of cards (Gunnar will explain!) If you’re making a long-term investment in your fitness, start with dumbbells and a jump rope, then work your way to a barbell. Alternatively, you can use household items in place of dumbbells, for example tins of soup, bottles of water, big milk/juice bottles or packets of rice.
Am I meant to do both the Gunnar workout & the regular workout shown in the planner?
Gunnar’s workouts are designed to work in isolation – ie: your only workout for the day. If you’re game, you could treat yourself the others as a bonus… but your legs may not thank you for it the next day.
I've tried, but I just can't jump rope!
We get it, jumping rope can be hard! Tiffiny’s technique video on jump rope fundamentals will help. If you’re not quite ready to try skipping with a real rope, start with an invisible one. Jump and move your arms the same way you would while holding a rope and once you’ve mastered that, try with the rope again.
What weight/plates should I use for dumbbells and barbells?
The suitable weight for dumbbell and barbell exercises is different for everyone. Select your weights based on your fitness level and strength – a weighted exercise should be challenging by the end of a round and you should feel your muscles burning, but the weight shouldn’t hinder your technique. If you’re struggling, use a lower weight until you’re ready to step it up.
