Threshold Density and Repeatability

Weeks 4-6.

What happens in Phase 2

This is where your engine works under pressure. You convert the base into 30:30 work and longer HYROX-style rounds, add density to your MISS and race-pace sessions, and shift into Tabata-style efforts and denser compromised movement. Hold race pace when your breath is short and your legs are heavy.

Your weekly structure

Five sessions a week: a 30:30 or Tabata day, a race-pace day, an aerobic or MISS support day with stations, a mobility day, and a longer HYROX-style round. The stress rises through the block.

Week by week

  • Week 4: Convert your base into 30:30 work and longer HYROX-style bike rounds. These are stress tests, not free output.
  • Week 5: Add density to your MISS and race-pace sessions without letting output fade. Density grows by holding the pace, not by adding rounds.
  • Week 6: Shift into Tabata-style work and denser compromised movement. This is the densest week of the block.

Intensity and RPE

Race pace sits around RPE 8, threshold at RPE 7-8, and the Tabata efforts push to RPE 9-10. Add density before intensity. If a session falls apart, cut one round rather than dropping your RPM, and bank the win for next time.

Tips for Phase 2

  • Look at your last round, not your first, to know whether you paced it right.
  • When stations bracket the bike, get back to clean push-pull rhythm quickly.
  • Protect your form under fatigue; a broken position costs more watts than easing off would.

What comes next

Phase 3 sharpens this engine and proves it against the benchmark. Read about Phase 3: Simulation, Taper, and Benchmark. New here? Start with Phase 1 or the program guide.
