Ahh, comfort food. We don’t always know why we need that warm, comforting hug that our favorite meals can give us, we just know that we do.
Thankfully, comfort food doesn’t have to mean unhealthy food. For Centr chef Dan Churchill, healthy comfort food is “something that still ticks those nostalgic boxes, a feeling of being in my PJs watching TV, or playing Scrabble and sipping hot chocolate... I still get everything I want, but in a nutritious way.”
Check out these recipes that will fill your heart, while keeping your Centr journey on track.

Banana Choc Gelati
PJs? Check! Sofa? Check! Rom-com? Check! All that’s missing from this cozy night in is a bowl of ice cream. And not just any ice cream - our Banana Choc Gelati is super fancy, super easy to make and all naturally sweetened.

Sweet Potato Nachos with Lentil Chilli
There’s just something about the melty, crunchy, hot and spicy, finger-licking experience of eating nachos that makes us feel good. You’ll feel better with these vegan nachos, too, with the goodness of sweet potatoes and lentils to stave off cravings.
3/8
Banoffee Parfait
Bless the Brits who melded banana with toffee to create banoffee! It’s usually served as a pie form, but this lighter and healthier parfait dessert, with the caramel sweetened by medjool dates, loses none of the comfort factor.
4/8
Baked Meatballs with Ciabatta
Italian-inspired Baked Meatballs by Sergio are the dinner equivalent of a big hug: warm, hearty and happy! Crusty ciabatta bread is the perfect tool for wiping every last trace of sauce from your plate.
5/8
Archie's Buckwheat Pancakes
Darren Robertson’s son Archie loves getting his hands dirty in the kitchen helping his dad whip up this breakfast treat. Buckwheat flour is gluten free, packed with nutrients and antioxidants and can help to lower cholesterol.
6/8
Healthy Fried Chicken
Dan loves this dinner for the nostalgic feeling of tucking into a chicken drumstick. We love it for the almond crust, which gives you the flavor and golden crunch you love about fried chicken, without the high calories that comes with frying!
7/8
Waffles with Balsamic Strawberries & Ricotta
You already know the fabulous benefits of buckwheat (revisit the Buckwheat Pancakes recipe if you were too busy drooling). The real surprise here is what goes on top of your waffles: the savory-sweet contrast of balsamic strawberries and ricotta cheese. Make this your new brunch staple.

Zucchini & Tomato Flatbread Pizza
Put a bit of color into your day with the dish that never fails to make us happy: pizza! With a creamy base of cottage cheese and yogurt, fresh tomatoes and a wholegrain pita bread base, it’s the healthy way to curb your cravings.
