Eight weeks to an engine that repeats. One structured plan to build it.

Air Bike Race Conditioning is an 8-week cardio block built around the Centr × HYROX Perform Series Air Bike. It develops your VO2, threshold, and race-pace output, then proves it with the same 10-minute test at the start and end of the program.

Why the air bike?

Most athletes ride hard but ride random, so they plateau: VO2, threshold, MISS, and race-pace work never get sequenced. The air bike is the fastest-return cardio tool you own, an all-out push-pull engine you can load safely. This program applies specific protocols to it in a deliberate order, then adds kettlebell, wall ball, and bodyweight stations so your engine transfers to HYROX-style work.

What is this program?

Over 8 weeks you follow a structured plan that progressively builds a measurable engine.

  • 5 workouts per week, 30 to 60 minutes, including a dedicated mobility flow. VO2 and retest days are short and sharp; MISS, threshold, and race-pace days run longer.
  • A 3-phase progression from engine base, to threshold density and repeatability, to simulation, taper, and benchmark.
  • A baseline-and-retest benchmark: the same 10-minute total-distance test in Week 1 and Week 8.
  • VO2, threshold, MISS, and race-pace sessions layered so your output repeats under fatigue.
  • Station work with kettlebell, wall ball, and bodyweight movements.

The 3 phases

Phase 1: Engine Base (Weeks 1-3)

Set your 10-minute baseline, build VO2 capacity, and extend your threshold tolerance. Read more about Phase 1.

Phase 2: Threshold Density and Repeatability (Weeks 4-6)

Convert your base into 30:30 and Tabata-style work while race-pace rounds get longer and more compromised. Read more about Phase 2.

Phase 3: Simulation, Taper, and Benchmark (Weeks 7-8)

Your weekly schedule

A typical week pairs a VO2 or threshold session with a race-pace skill day, an aerobic or MISS support day with compromised movement, and a dedicated mobility day. Rest is not authored as a workout: place it around your harder sessions as you need it.

The benchmark

You open on Week 1, Day 1 with a 10-minute total-distance test, retest the same effort in Week 8, and finish with a HYROX-style benchmark simulation. Intensity and RPE

This program uses Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) to set effort. Base work sits around RPE 5-6, threshold around RPE 7-8, race pace around RPE 8, and VO2 or sprint work at RPE 9-10. The goal is rarely maximal. It is repeatable: output you can produce again after you're taxed.

What equipment do I need?

The Centr × HYROX Perform Series Air Bike plus a kettlebell, a wall ball, and open floor space. You should know basic air bike setup and push-pull rhythm before you start.

Recovery and mobility

A dedicated mobility flow runs each week at around 25 to 30 minutes, alongside universal warm-up and cooldown flows. Hard interval work earns easy days; treat your recovery sessions as part of the training, not a break from it. Sleep and fuel are part of the plan.
